Information for Parents
General Squad Information
- Attendance - swimmers are expected to consistently attend the minimum sessions specified for their squad. Persistent failure to meet this criteria may lead to transfer to another squad.
- Non-attendance - out of courtesy to coaches, please inform them of non-attendance due to illness, family holidays, school camps, etc.
- Injury Management - it is important that swimmers/parents discuss any illness or ongoing injury with their coach so that training/competition does not aggravate or prolong the problem.
- Member Protection Policy - refer Swimming Victoria.
- Punctuality - mandatory at all sessions so that "warm up" sets are not missed and the squad routine is not disrupted. Junior squad members are particularly asked to observe this.
- Public Holidays - no morning training due to late opening of pool; normal evening training unless advised otherwise
- School Holidays - no training break for squad swimmers; Learn To Swim does break for the holidays
- Please read Swimming Australia's Codes of Conduct and ensure that your child/children read it as well (a copy can be obtained from the Noticeboard on pool deck or the Swimming Australia website).
Absence from training:
When a swimmer will be/has been absent from training, it is expected that the parents inform the coach by SMS or email. Coaches can then take this into consideration when looking at monthly attendances (which must be maintained above 75%). Mobile numbers and email addresses can be found in the swimmer's personal club folder (distributed during Orientation Week). These club folders are given to new members when they join the club.
Punctuality at training:
A reminder that the training times specified are the times at which swimmers are expected to be IN THE WATER ready to start, not walking in the door. Please ensure that swimmers arrive a few minutes early to allow adequate time to get ready for training.
It is not acceptable to turn up 5 or 10 minutes late (without a valid explanation from a parent) and miss warm up.
Drinks:
All swimmers need to bring a drink bottle to every training session. The pool is heated to close to 30 degrees, so training for an hour will make them sweat just as much as running around outside on a 30 degree day. Swimmers who don't bring drinks are at risk of dehydrating.
